Overclocking 6700k Water Cooled and EVGA 980 Superclocked 2.0 Tips

Post #1 by kyle_castle96 » Thu Jun 16, 2016 8:08 pm

Hi,

Haven't really done much overclocking when it comes to Graphics cards, I was wondering whether you guys had any tips for both CPU and GPU, whether you've gotten any good results etc. If so could you give me some tips :D I'd appreciate it!

Thanks!

I can't really help with your CPU as I have not done any overclocking on those CPUs but there is many here who can but as for clocking your GPU, you want to use something like MSI Afterburner and push the power and temp targets up fully, push the core clock slider in incriments of 50Mhz and then run Heaven bench test and if it passes a loop, add another 50Mhz and rerun. Keep doing this till it crashes and then drop 20 Mhz from the last clock and rerun but with 3 loops and if it passes, that is your stable core clock. Move onto memory and add +400Mhz and run Heaven again, if there is triangles of disco lights of snow, stop, drop the memory by 50 Mhz and start again.

Thanks for the advice guys, Did some tests on my GPU using EVGA Precision X and managed to pull off an overclock of this:

Ran Heaven benchmark for about 30mins and running stable so not to shabby! Didn't realise how simple it was when it comes to overclocking the GPU, becomes a bit more finicky with the CPU due to messing with voltages. I'd still be up for having a go with the CPU with some tips don't really trust myself guessing haha.

You should be able to push your 6700K a little on default voltage, might even be able to under volt it but i have no experience with Skylake, probably just a multiplier adjustment for a mild overclock but im not sure. A K series CPU is just asking to be overclocked for sure and you have the cooling to do so :D
