Awesome build andy.. you have nailed it with that black and purple! The cards would look good if you could change the light colour from green to purple ? :D

Thanks guys. I've still got to fit some purple LEDs to the front fan as they're blue atm. I did think about modding the Titans but they're Palit, and I'm worried about warranty.

I might try putting some purple film over them or something :)

Mod time. OK so the supplied 200mm Megaflow fan has blue LEDs. Time to fix that. Removed the fan and cut off the blue LEDs.

Image

And a little while later...

Image

Much better that.

Image

And fitted a 120mm fan in the bottom front part. Didn't even know there was one there tbh.

Image

And done.

Image

Much better :)

Also yesterday I made one of my floating fans to cool the fets.

About two years ago I bought two £30 tablets for me and my lady. We used them for a while for Kindle, then my lady got a Nexus 7 and I ended up getting a 5" phone. One of the tablets now sits on a Klipsch dock and is our radio, the other is going to be grafted into the front of the Cosmos 2 and will be running Precision X as you see :) I am going to buy an internal to external USB connector, then hide that in the case to power up the tablet with. The USB power is continuous even when the PC is shut down so the tablet will remain on. I can also use it as a tablet if the PC is busy :) I'll hook the sound output from the tablet through the PC's input, so films and music etc can all be controlled via the tablet if I want to :)

Thanks OF !

I'm very excited about modding the tablet in now. Sat down and thought it through earlier, and god it'll be handy.. I can use it to connect to the web and find info on overclocking whilst Im in the bios haha. Soo many uses for it in the front there !

I ordered a a3 sheet of purple acrylic and a big length of purple dinoc, so it should look pretty cool. I always wanted to mod the tablet into my AMD PC but it just didn't have enough space in the front :(

This tablet was free too. My lady wasn't happy with the sound (it's quiet but hey, it's a £30 tablet) so she got her money back. It's been sat in my drawer for about a year and a half.

Once that's done I need to fashion a plate to sit behind the GPUs feeding them with air.

Quick update. I hit a huge snag with the tablet. Basically the charging and USB sockets were on the side as you stand it in portrait. This means it would not fit. I took both apart trying to mod them, but inevitably they were cheap Chinese crap and fell apart.

However.

I'm not done by a long chalk. Check this out.

Image

The front acrylic panel is now made, and fits like a glove. Expect to see something mounted in it soon ;)

OK so a slight change of plans. Instead of mounting the Android device in the front I did this.

Image

And running..

Image

Then for the GPU mid plate. First mark.

Image

Then cut.

Image

And finally..

Image

Sadly I broke the corner off when drilling. Ah well, doesn't matter and tbh? I needed to do it any way to pass through the Android USB cable.

So here it is ready to bolt in.

Image

And fitted.

Image

Image

Sadly I seem to have misplaced my 3 pin splitter so I need to buy some more.

OK so I have just bagged a bargain. Basically there was a listing on Ebay from a guy selling Corsair Nova 60gb SSDs. Apparently he uses them in servers, and has had a few failures. That's common for Corsair SSDs, I've had two just vanish.

Any way, I bought four of these.

Image

Unopened and brand new for £10 each. Can you say, RAID 0 stupid uber speeds?

Keeping my fingers crossed :)

As for the build? I have my step daughter here atm, hence the quietness. I did order the stuff I need to mount the phone, and it fits brilliantly in the space I have allocated for it. More soon :)

Not in RAID it seems. I've got a six port Intel Rapid Storage controller to use them on..

Yeah they were cheap. According to the seller he bought loads for use in servers and had a few failures. I've had two Corsair SSDs just up and die on me but for £40 even if one ends up reliable it still wasn't a terrible deal.

TBH I may even just keep them separate. 240gb is plenty of game storage :) I'll be sure to test them all before setting up any array any way. But man, they'll look gorgeous all lined up in the bottom of my case on a nice bit of purple acrylic :)

It's almost worth it. The build quality is very good. Still not quite up there with an Alienware, though arguably better looking.

I'd have been in real trouble had I gone for something smaller, as it's a 10 slot board so literally goes right to the bottom of the case. I didn't even know that tbh. ATX XL, it's new on me.

Today I'm hoping the SSDs arrive and that the Ebay seller is good to his word. If not? well I just bought an MSATA SSD for my Apple Powerbook 17, so I can be getting on with that :) That should also come today.

I am going to contact Parvum about making me some GPU back plates. Got an idea or two up my sleeve :D

Checked all the boxes, still sealed at both ends with the Corsair seal. So they're absolutely brand spankers. Time for some fun :D

OK, so that was a pretty stressful and hot and bothersome hour. However, it's in...

So first up I had to rewire my entire PC on the SATA ports. Everything had to be moved onto the Asmedia controller, so that the Intel RSTE one was free. It took a while, but I got it there. First though I tested out all of the drives to make sure they were kosher.

Image

Drive 2

Image

Drive 3

Image

Drive 4

Image

OK so they all work as they should, all formatted OK and all bench fine. Then it was into bios to enable the RAID controller. I set it to RSTE 3.6. Then I pressed CTRL I to enter the set up, setting up the stripe was an absolute doddle.

Image

Quick format, and the drive was showing up and ready.

Image

The results? breathtaking tbh.

I'll either leave it as is or maybe, possibly use some AIOs on the GPUs. I'd want two H100 or whatever dual rad though. There's a place on Ebay that sells the kit to use an AIO.

Could put one in the bottom where the hard drives are and mod the other into the front...

But right now I have the chip stable at 4.7ghz (even in this heat wave) and completely bench stable at 4.8 on the same voltage. Oddly the voltage doesn't help me go any higher..

I've never been a true believer in water cooling. TBH? once the H100 came along it made a lot of it pointless. I've not seen CPUs do more than 200mhz more than a good AIO and it costs a fortune and requires maintenance.

What I'm going to do now is go back to my other rig and fit an 8 core 16 thread Ivy Xeon with a Gigabyte UD3 X79 and then wait on core support. Intel are about to launch an 8 core 16 thread Haswell (£900) and if I play my cards right and take the chance I could see full support on the Ivy Xeon with 16 threads. It only cost me £165 too, that's an awful, awful lot of power for the money.

Soon mate. Right now it's fookin guest house paradiso here. We had my younger step daughter three weeks back, then we had a one day break before my eldest step daughter and her fiancée arrived. Thursday I'm off to my mum's for two days to give them some time here alone, then after the weekend I should finally be back to normal hehe.

I wasn't expecting the drives to do that either mate if I'm honest. I mean, I expect some extra performance but not for them to quadruple their speeds ! I guess you get what you pay for with the X79 hard drive controller.... It should be running TRIM too which is awesome.

I'm going to be going back to the other rig soon (TDC) so will post a new log for that one. I've finally convinced my lady to sit at a proper desktop. Well, she wants to, she just bought The Forest and it's a slide show on her lappy lol.

OK guys so it's time for an update. I've really been a bit under the weather of late. Rushing around doing a lot of other things has stopped me focusing.. Any way, here's what I got planned.

Today I was looking at ideas for the front, cue MNPCtech. I've never bought any of their products before due to the ludicrous prices but this I just had to have...

Image

That will go in the front. I've also ordered an A3 sheet of purple acrylic and this..

Image

First time I've ever bought genuine 3M. Will be interested to see how much better it is than the regular cheap shite I buy.. That stuff is to make GPU back plates. Still not settled on the actual design and finish but have plenty of options. Could be a combo of acrylic finish and Dinoc, or Dinoc on Dinoc (I gots purple).

Today I am going to tackle the Android phone. I've got all the bits.. Just feeling really lethargic atm.

More soon !
