The big purple monster !

Post #1 by ALXAndy » Tue Jul 01, 2014 11:26 am

Fnarr !

OK, so as I mentioned I am now sorting out my dream PC. I have comprised a cart on Ebuyer and now have pretty much everything in place. Should be ordering by Friday. Here's what I have.

Gigabyte GA-X79-UD3 Intel X79 Socket 2011 7.1 Channel HD Audio ATX Motherboard

Palit GTX TITAN Black 6GB GDDR5 Dual DVI HDMI DisplayPort PCI-E Graphics Card x 2

WatchDogs Nvidia Download Coupon x 2

Intel Core i7 4930K 3.40GHZ Socket 2011 12MB Cache Retail Boxed Processor

Corsair Vengeance 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1600Mhz Memory Kit CL9 1.5V x 2

Corsair AF120 LED Purple Quiet Edition High Airflow 120mm Fan Twin Pack x 3 (so six)

Corsair AF120 LED Purple Quiet Edition High Airflow 120mm Fan x 1 (so seven 120mm fans in total)

Corsair AF140 LED Purple Quiet Edition High Airflow 140mm Fan x 3 (two for the rad one for the rear exhaust)

Corsair Hydro Series H110 280mm High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler

Arctic Silver Ceramique 2 25g Tri-Linear Ceramic Thermal Compound

EVGA Supernova 1300W Fully Modular 80+ Gold Power Supply

Coolermaster Cosmos 2 Case

AOC D2769VH 27" VGA 2xHDMI LED Monitor with Speakers

OK so that's the main rig structure there. Now to add..

I ordered this stuff already. Two six pin PCIE in purple and black.

Image

Two 8 pin PCIE in purple and black.

Image

Plus an 8 pin EPS (same pic on Shakmods it seems..) and then a 24 pin ATX

Image

Which I think are super nice tbh. Then I got four of these.

You should contact Davido labido on here. Dave does custom braided cables made to your individual requirements. Got a set made up in red, white and black for my own system. The quality of the cables is outstanding.

Cheers dude. Yeah I've used Ebuyer a few times in the past. Bought my Ipad from them :)

No point going elsewhere. I went to Scan and they couldn't even get within £200, god knows what OCUK would have cost.

I wish :D £55 I paid. Certainly not going to stress over it though. I would have done it myself but tbh it's a major faff.

Yay the cables arrived. They're not paracord but then that doesn't matter. I mean, I personally prefer paracord but I gotta say it does attract dust. These are harder and shinier so no doubt air will clean them.

Very nice to see there's no shrink on them either. I guess Shakmods figured that out after having taken their Ebay pics.

Very nice.

Corsair Vengeance 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1600Mhz Memory Kit CL9 1.5V x 2

You're gunna need 4 sticks of ram preferably quad channel to make proper usage of the 3970X you've just bought.

Aye 2x2gb x2..

Any way, doesn't matter now. Did a bit of wrangling and with the £350 CPU I changed the ram :) Here's the order.

Managed to really squeeze my bank account hard and go for something a bit nicer :)

Aaaah, if id have seen this earlier I might have been able to sort you out.

Shakmods sleeving isn't too bad really, I'm not much for their techniques though.

Looks like your sorted now thoigh? If not, fire me a message on that Facebook page above, as tonester says I am crazy busy at the moment with 4 builds I need to get finished and a few more on the horizon it seems, but I always try and make time for folks!

Cheers dude but yeah, am pretty much sorted now :)

I do need another 6 pin PCIE and 8 pin EPS (the board uses the two for PCIE power and an extra CPU power) but will order the same ones to make sure they match up.

Just had an absolute nightmare with my bank. First they refuse the payment for the CPU. An hour on the phone and it was finally sorted. Got up this morning to find an email from Ebuyer, card declined for **** sake.

Phoned the bank, they tell me OK go ahead it's sorted. Phoned Ebuyer, declined again.

Phoned bank again, this time very angry.... ******' finally ! all sorted now.

It'll actually sink in soon....

Thanks dude. I don't know if you ever saw any of my mods (I've done quite a few now !) but I'm also known as "Zombie Mods". The last build I did was The Dark Carnival. It was basically themed on the level from Left 4 Dead 2.. This tall to die etc..

http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/609 ... p-roll-up/

You can see the entire project there, but here are a few pics if you CBA.

Image

There are so many mods in there that tbh I can't be arsed listing them all. But let's just say; serious serious work went into that. 5ghz 8320, 7990 etc it's one heck of a rig !

Here is the side panel I etched.

Image

And the front. Again, heavy heavy modding. There's a 3 inch video screen in the front that acts as a photo frame, displaying pics of the PC and my logos. When turned on the screen turns into a system monitor, churning out GPU temps, CPU temps, fan speeds and so on. It's very very clever.

Image

Also in the front are three red billet power buttons. These are power on/off, reset and Asus Directkey (tm). You press it and the computer reboots or just starts straight into bios.

With the Purple Monster I am hoping to fit a 7" Android screen into the front, running EVGA Precision X and connected through the sound card's input. That way I can watch movies on the front of the computer lol.

Not sure it'll fit yet, but if it doesn't fit the Cosmos 2 nothing will :)

FFS. So the stuff, all three thousand pound's worth of it was sent with the worst courier in the history of S*** couriers, Yodel.

So it was no surprise to find one of the boxes looked like this.

Image

Image

Oh goody ******' gumdrops ! let's see what's missing shall we?

Well, the PSU and motherboard are here....

Image

So is the ram it would seem..

Image

And the 120mm fans..

Image

TITANZ PORNZ

Image

The cooler..

Image

And the case. Fook me, she's a big son of a ***** !

Image

Sadly it ends there. No 140mm fans (three) and no thermal paste. Still, I guess it could have been worse. Now let's see how Ebuyer make this right......

Image

A nice touch ! So here she is and she's a biggun !

Image

It's kinda weird really. I've never, ever been able to afford components of such a high grade so every time I look at them I have to remember that they're actually real. Very surreal all of this. Any way, time for some Titan Black fun.

Image

And unwrapped..

Image

And time to look at the board.

Image

First impressions? holy.****.that.is.a.big.******.motherboard...

Image

And the certificate of quality control.

Image

And then I found this in the hall way entrance to my flat.

Image

One hella big tube of thermal compound lol. So all that's missing are the 3 140mm fans.

Ah... If your post wasn't so broke up, I'd have noticed what was missing.

Aslong as all the key components are there you're laughing.

They're not though. The fans are for the H110 so I can't fit the cooler.

Not that it matters, the CPU isn't due until Monday (special delivery). Thing is Ebuyer fobbed me off promising they would call back and they haven't, which means that basically they won't do anything now until Monday. I wouldn't mind but I called them at quarter past two, so they had plenty of time.

Bastards. More pics coming up in just a moment.

CPU arrived this morning.

Last night at 7:30 the doorbell went. It was Yodel. Apparently they had forgotten a parcel.. Opened it up, bingo bongo, three 140mm fans.

So I now have everything :)

OK so the build log. Please note this is far from finished ! I have some serious mods left to do..

So I tidied up the wiring that comes with the case.

Image

And then fitted the PSU.

Image

Cracked out the board.

Image

And turned the case around. A shot of the cavernous interior !

Image

OK. So what I was most worried about, the CPU.

Image

Seems legit...

Image

And time came to fit it to the motherboard. After wrestling with it for a while nervously I finally realised that 2011 has two mechs, both need to be engaged. Very odd !

Image

Board in..

Image

OK, interlude.. One 7" Android tablet..

Image

Keep and eye out for that thing in the next week or so. It's going to be a part of the PC itself.

Wiring, and a couple of hard drives.

Image

Wires.

Image

Tidy.

Image

Then it was round to the back for some cable management.

Image

OK so time to fit the H110. Remove the top.

Image

And open up the cooler.

Image

Get out all the bits.

Image

And then TIM clean the pump. I am using my own TIM.

Image

Fans

Image

And fit.

Image

Turn it back around..

Image

Fit the pump

Image

Fit the SSD

Image

Sorted. Right round to the back.

Image

Aaaaand..

Image

BEAST.

Image

Specs.
