Single Stage Dead

Post #1 by nickolp1974 » Thu Feb 26, 2015 3:00 pm

Just been running my single stage and the compressor has just stopped :( i have just opened up the electrical box and theres a large capacitor, could that of failed?? How do i test?? Not sure if my mm has a capacitance reading.
The fans still spins but nothing else, it just cut out, no pop or anything.
Anyone know anything about electronics?? Really hoping the compressor hasn't died :(

1. Use MM and check if you get voltage in cable hub box(box with many cables etc) one cable should go to fan one to compressor etc.(check if you get volt to compressor)
2. Are it any fuses in box would check there first. Should be one for compressor for safety reasons.( should be one start capacitor on compressor(safty fuse)and may by one in box.

That big capacitor does the cables goes to compressor ?

I hope you solve your problem. My guess it is a fuse has gone for the compressor ;)

More pictures/info is welcome hard to se from one pic.( like compressor volt etc easier to help)

Cant find a fuse for the compressor, i'll get some better pics. The red/yellow/blue cables on the left side of pic are the ones that go directly to the compressor, are you saying wire these directly to mains to test?

Found the fuse it was in last picture next to earth, one of the contacts for the fuse was a bit slack so i bent it in, now i dont know if that solved it but its now working?? Only time will tell, testing now!

Good to hear Nick ;)

Very important to check that all cables have contact. Are some serious amps in compressor start power. :o

For fail search compressor if neaded in future.

1. realise red cable in the black hub(from compressor)
2 realise ground from ground hub (from compressor)
3. realise blue cable from grey hub (from big capacitor)

4. Use old Power jacket male(230v)
Red 0
blue phase
Green/yellow ground

Dont tutch Yellow and blue from compressor (Big capacitor is neaded for compressor start

5. Now you can test big capacitor and compressor.

Other things good to know

Rotarys have a Heat/fuse built in unit. So they can fail to (Are on top of compressor house next to discharge outlet) (compressor age can be a reason for this)
Capacitor rarly brake in one second. They got worse over age. So when they brake its likly no suprise.

Thanks pulse for the info, its been running now for 1.5-2 hours and it seem ok but temps are a little lower, running 3D03 temps are usually around -56c now its at -53c which is odd, ill test more when i have time.

A god idea is to check electric box for more screws(that hold cables in hubs etc) and cables that could have vibrate loose.Vibration can do nasty things to electric some times.
loose electric and many amps can be a nice little welder/fire starter/fire work.
And make weird effects that is hard to fail search on unit. ;)

This thread made my stomach lurch. Nick I am pleased that all is going well with the unit. Fuse issue was the first thing that screamed out to me and yes it is a good idea to have space by the radiator for airflow.

To be honest i have done alot of cards 10+ but not updated thread  I have still 14 cards left + 3 mother boards(775,Am3+ and x99).
And i will build a Pump station before benching starts. I have 3 ups 25-60 grundfos pumps(220v) already waiting. Very powerful(needed when going cold..).one pump do 1.5 bar at 2000lph with 0 degrees water(pump pressure drops with colder temps thats why i nead 3 pumps if i wont to keep flowrate at 2000lph+). The pumps are mostly used for geothermal heating in big houses in sweden. ;)
