Skylake-S i7-6700K Benchmarked

Post #1 by Frenzic » Thu May 28, 2015 12:59 pm

5-10% increase over the i7-4790K. To be expected really but my god Intel certainly needs some competition these days instead of competing with themselves! :D

Still undecided wether to go skylake or not. Current 4790k is ok, but I like the idea of ddr4. Then part of me says just get a new gpu instead, ie gtx 980ti. Arrgh, me brains fried with choices lol.

Honestly those results are a load of rubbish really, I would be very surprised to see such a little improvement when skylake is a new "tick" in the intel tick-tock system.

I have to agree with Lewis. That suggests it is only 3-5% better than Broadwell (basing that on the fact that Broadwell is ~5% quicker than Haswell) which just doesn't seem enough.

I suppose we have no real option but to wait until the end of the year when they finally release it.

4790K is at 4.4GHz the 6700K is at 4.2GHz so the performance increase is at lower clocks ... sure there is some maths to be done for perfprmance per core per MHz but I can't be bothered....and it is a tock not a tick :P plus the step down is ever decreasing in magnitude..gains now in performance per watt not absolute performance..I guess

The sole reason (in my eyes) why Intel are focusing on the performance per watt is purely because there's no competition. Why keep improving your CPU by 20% a generation when you can gain 5% and decrease power draw at the same time? It's just logical to focus on power draw rather than performance.

There's also that tiny glimmer of hope for AMD that they could catch up... one day...

That's the same guy that posted a 5.0 GHz 4790K on air at Haswell Refresh launch and the media went 'wild' trying to repost it. Yeah, more like a cherry CPU for single threaded benches, as shown in the screenshots

After the whole 5ghz on air debacle with 4790k, i'll hold my judgement until i see end user results with non ES chips.

Was not Lam banned from bot some years ago for cheating.

Anyway have him and Slincky guy in same boat when it comes to cheating and a nead of attention no matter what.

They are destroing the sport in some ways.

Slincky guy have some very fishy Gpupi results with 290x on water.
First he subbed same scores with 1200 core clocks with ln2 cards times. When they got removed he subbed same scores with 1400-1500core clocks....
These scores are still legit on Hwbot

Anyway they have the same thing they want to win at all cost....

Not expecting a great deal out of Skylake. Scary to see just how many Devils Canyon users are ready and waiting to jump ship :). If not only for DDR4, I suppose.

Seen shots of the Asus ROG boards, extreme, gene, hero and ranger. All look very nice. Though I may hold out for the next formula. It always appears later. But, still seems like a crazy upgrade from a 4790k. But then, I have silly upgrades down to a fine art lol.

Staying put with the 4790K until the Skylake refresh hits i.e Kabylake, Honestly can't afford to get anything else this year plus going by the game benchmarks I highly doubt I'll see that extra 2FPS :D

Anyone here jumping on skylake then? Whats interesting is a 5820k 6C/12T setup would cost the around the same and dx12 is going to love more cores and threads :?

Nope, too much of a let down going by reviews. Apparently not that great for overclocking either for those on air/water cooling. 5820k is a far more attractive package, actually thinking of making the jump myself.
