Malay or Costa??

Post #1 by nickolp1974 » Mon Mar 16, 2015 3:35 pm

So in peoples experience which place of manufacture offers the better overclockability ?? If one is better than the other then why is this do you think??
I know we have Vietnam too but the majority apply to the 2 above.

Stay away from Malaysia! Batch Lxxxxxxx

I have one and it's pants... and was looking around at the beginning... and the times I saw pants OCers a few of them were Malaysian too.

Now, I know that the lottery will apply everywhere and I have seen a corker from Malaysia too but best believe me, my next chip will be Costa Rican!

generally I have never really noticed there being a distinct difference in costa vs malay vs vietnam etc. It's all down to when the chip was made relative to demand. Usually the very early CPUs are of the highest quality because the demand is quite low, once the chip has been out a while the quality is lower because they need to produce more chips to keep up with demand. Just my 2c anyway.

Iirc the two 4790k's I've had were both Malay ones, both pretty similair. A few of the best I've seen lately have been from Vietnam. I believe Intel have a plant in Ireland too, though tbh I'm surprised they can keep the locals of the drink long enough to get any work done.

So it appears that a particular plant does not determine anything. I'd certainly agree about getting chips early, the first few batchs of 5960x certainly appear to be the better clockers out there.
