AMD Vs Nvidia on 16/14nm

Post #1 by Gregster » Mon Jan 04, 2016 11:36 pm

Well it is now 2016 so things are hotting up in the GPU department and not before time either. 28nm has been with us for far too long so I welcome the new era of 16/14nm chips and will be jumping on the big end when it hits (probably give both a run out). HBM all round apparently (not vure if early Pascal for Nvidia will be HBM though) and Nvidia still seem set for Q1/early Q2 and AMD Q2/early Q3.

I hope AMD do have a beast this round and can get back to a decent level. Nvidia have had it all their own way of late and it would only help our wallets to have them both battling for our hard earneds.

So, what are you guys hoping for? 2x980 power perhaps? 2 x Fury X power? the Die shrink should bring in some decent gains and I would expect to see at least 1.75x a 980Ti on the high end Pascal.

I think it will be close between the two for the high-end crown. As for power nvidia should be not far off 2 980Ti's and AMD with 2 Fury X's like you say. I have been waiting for pascal for bloody ages and I hope it's cool and quick with the new nodes :)

Gonna have to be nvidia cards for me due to G-sync swift, I'll go for 1080ti's, but hoping I only have to find the cash for one while funding a second from the sale of my two 980ti's, it would be good though if AMD came up with something to really take on pascal and drive the prices down with the competition but wont hold my breath. Hoping for min 8gb HBM2 and near 2x980ti performance from one card, maybe wishful thinking so I'll pray instead.

Part of me wants to be a good boy and go mid range this time but the lure is hard to resist.

It all depends on the performance and the price. My Fury Tri-x runs cool and quiet and the drivers tend to behave themselves 99% of the time so I may try and drag it out until everything on offer has been released before I buy something..
Have you ever played STALKER Call of Pripyat? Did you like it? If so why not try some mods that are available including total rebuilds with new maps and storylines, Here's a link to a selection of All-in-one's, Feel free to visit and maybe try a mod or two. http://www.moddb.com/mods/translations
