New 980ti

Post #1 by grassy » Tue Nov 17, 2015 6:52 am

Hi guys, its been a while but i am ready to buy again and the card i have chosen is the 980ti but i was just wondering which is the more reliable card for heat and noise. I am not to bothered on overclocking, just as long as the heat and noise are to a minimum. It will be great to get away from a 2gb 690 and get up to a 6gb card.

No probs here, the 980 Ti is a fantastic card, even my reference cards easily overclock to 1400mhz but I do have to ramp the fans up a bit to keep em cool, the one I linked boosts upto 1400mhz out the box, stays quiet and very cool according to TTL but honestly any 980 Ti would serve you well, whatever one you go for will have you playing most games maxed out up to 1440p, not sure where they stand at 4K though but guess you'd have to lower settings to keep 60+fps. After thought, we'll be getting Pascal next year if you don't mind waiting but if you can't then enjoy your lovely 980 Ti :)

Lol, i know what you mean. :) My method of justifying the expensive purchases theese days is that it keeps me out of the pub. Doesnt always work strangely.

Same as the above really. I've got the MSI 980TI 6G and it's a machine! Quick, quiet and chews games like nothing I've owned before!

With the new card is it advisable to do a clean install of my drivers and remove older one's with "driver sweeper" or could i just remove the old 690 card and put the new 980ti in.This is the first time i have replaced a card like this.

No, just slap your new card in and do a clean install, no need to use driver sweeper unless you are having issues, I've changed from 680 to 780, 980 then 980 TI and each time I just did a clean install without any issues at all.

Installed new card and with vsync on i am getting 60fps and sometimes drops to 56 or so but i am getting a lot of game stutter when playing Black flag and i have noticed my Bus interface reads different to what is in my bios.My bios reads 3.0 x 16 and in gpu-z i see 2.0x16.When i enable rendering it does not change so i am wondering do i need to upgrade my bios to the latest version as it is an old version for the r4 black edition.Image

I changed my game over to unity and it runs a lot better than black flag believe it or not. I think its more optimized for today's cards. Shame really because i prefer black flag.I have black flag on ps4 so i can get my fix there.Unity runs well on ultra settings and i am now thinking of getting better cooling. Thanks Mate
