I've had the same hardware for nearly 7 years now, and seems as I'm having very occasional power surges, figured now was the best time to upgrade, as I would still have a PC while building a new one. The only parts that will be carried over will be the GPU (seems as I've only had it about 6 months) and a couple of SSD drives.
Motherboard
RAM
CPU
Cooler
HDD
Case
PSU
Can anyone see any problems that may arise or have any suggestions?

No seems all good to me if that's what you want. The two thing's i would change is the 1TB ssd,and buy a normal 3TB HDD(Because you said you already have a couple of ssd to put in),and use the rest of the money saved to buy a better motherboard.

Re: Upgrade time
Thought I might go to the effort of installing an M.2 SSD.
Finally picked one out, with the right capacity (£120), found somewhere where I can get a 40mm fan (£6), found somewhere that will sort a bracket for said fan (£10), my only question is now is it worth the outlay? Or am I better off putting it towards a new 2.5" drive?

Re: Upgrade time
I'd say save a bit, ditch the SSD as you already have a couple, sell your 970 and go for a second 980ti or 1080 if you can stretch to it, would be sweet, don't skimp on the mobo though it's a very important part of the build.

No appears to be all great to me if that is the thing that you need. The two thing's i would change is the 1TB ssd,and purchase an ordinary 3TB HDD(Because you said you as of now have a few ssd to put in),and utilize whatever remains of the cash spared to purchase a superior motherboard. Re: Upgrade time
I really doubt you need that extra SSD. They are hella expensive and if you have a couple... why would you care then? Save some money, man.
