So, I got a PS4...

Post #1 by pgi947 » Tue Dec 30, 2014 1:28 pm

So I got one of these things for Christmas, well, a late gift to my self :P

I was in need of a Netflix box for the living room, figured I'd see what all the fuss is about. The bundle I got came with little big planet 3 and gta5.

Little big planet is surprisingly brilliant, looks fantastic, puzzle based with narration from Steven fry and Hugh Laurie (guy that was in black adder/house?) I'd been at it near 2 hours before I noticed it was 1am and had to go to bed

Gta5, took some getting used to but now I'm 'into it' it's a superb game, story line is great, the world is massive and they've done a great job getting this looking and running so well on what is essentially an APU. The DOF surprised me the most along with some clever use of motion blur to mask the fact the game is running at 30fps.impressed. can't wait for the PC release now.

All in all I'm impressed, looking forward to getting some of the exclusives next like the last of us :)

If you get the urge, buy one.

Every time some one buys a PS4 god kills a kitten :D

Must say I've been somewhat tempted myself, but would rather stick to my PC. All I need now is the engineer to come out and fix my bloody TV, because as of now I'm not getting any display on the 4k HDMI input and there's only the one :(

Edit. Best format for Netflix now, IMO, is Youview. They have now added Netflix to it, and, it has a metric ton of other players. I bought us a recorder for cheaps, got a partial refund on the broken hard drive and replaced it with one out of an old Sky HD box. Same brand (Pipeline enterprise) so I'm well chuffed with it.

We can't have satellite here because it isn't our property. Not that I would really want it, as IMO Youview (and especially the top end Humax) poos all over Freesat.

Haven't even installed Netflix :P yet...

Enjoying getting to play an NHL game again after all these years, something neglected on the PC :(

The one thing glaringly obvious is how quickly these consoles will become obsolete, if they hit the same life cycle as the last gen (~9 years?) They'll be competing with 4k being the norm within years, not only lacking the horsepower but lacking the display outputs to do so.

As long as these still support games from past versions of Sony's consoles I may have to get one myself.
If not I'll still check it out but that would be a big minus to me as a reason or excuse for getting one. New games are OK but I would like for it run all Sony based games if possible.

Unfortunately these aren't backwards compatible in any way, the only hope is that titles get resurrected via the psn store. A bit gutting as the ps3 has a few good exclusives I wouldn't mind getting my hands on

Add me to your PSN friends list dude - psn ID: zoomeez

I've been addicted to Destiny since it came out - PC hasn't been switched on since lol! - be careful of that game, it sups life energies :(

Last of Us is classic - GET IT NOW! - Looking forward to Uncharted 4 aswell - looks too gorgeous.
I just bought Driveclub from amazon (steal at £24) now its settled from initial online problems - supposed to be a nice graphical racing game (not on par with the usual GT I used to play, but it will do in the meantime).

New MGS due out soon too - and if you ain't got a PSN subscription - get one bud, defo worth £40 just for the freebie games they give away, think one of the new Infamous is due out Jan for free, this month it was Injustice (I bought this back when it first came out!)

Yeah they were never going to get cell CPU games running on X86.

Same goes for the new Xbone apparently. My uncle was saying the other day that he would not buy one because it wouldn't be compatible with his old games.

TBH I reckon this will be the last big console release. They're a dying breed now.

Did a little digging and saw that, even the PS3's I believe aren't backward compatable with older PSX and PS2 games.
That's OK since I have what I've got and was just hoping for something a bit more powerful to run them with.

The original ps3 (20/60gb fattys) were fully backward compatible but it was done with extra hardware, they stripped these out in all editions after with expection to the EU 80GB, which had some software level functional.

Will add you zoomee.

On Friday/Saturday I should have the following: the last of us remastered, driveclub and infamous second son, I'll likely order destiny soon too as I've found it for £30.

Need to dig out an ethenet cable too, wireless on the ps4 is terrible, chokes my 80mb line down to 11mb, all other wireless devices hit 40-50mb

That's good to know so the slims are out for me.
As long as it works OK and can play my older stuff, I'm good with it.

God damn that's looks good, rumoured to be released October so shouldn't infringe on my witcher 3 time much :D

Wondering if its a good idea to grab a cheap slim ps3 to play some of the previous gen exclusives.

It can become very addictive without you knowing it!
My PC hasn't been used once for gaming since Destiny came out lol
got a Level 32 Hunter, and a Level 31 Warlock at the moment - play weekly, nightfalls and raids often.

I'm only level 5 at the moment (forgot which class, one with the light orb grenades?).

How does the multiplayer work out? I usually end up in a lobby with a load of level 30+ players and obviously it doesn't scale well for me in that respect.

Addictive is spot on, it consumed most of my weekend.

At Level 5 you need to concentrate on completing story mode bud. By the end of that you should be at least Level 18.
Once you get to Level 18 (by collecting experience points) you can play through the strike playlists to get to level 20.
Once at Level 20 its all about the armour you collect or buy - You need light levelled armour to get to 30 etc.

In the meantime collect any stuff lying around you may come across - don't worry too much what its for as you'll use it later on.

Simply upgrade your armour and guns to the higher attack or higher armour versions as soon as you get them - keep the 'blue' stuff and you can safely dismantle the green stuff (both weapons and armour) as you start to get to Level 10.

It gets a lot more complicated once you get to level 20 in terms of having to grind through certain parts of the game to get the drops you'll need and this is where it becomes addictive.

Don't worry about other players just yet - as you play through story mode each mission you'll complete on your own (unless you invite someone) but the strike missions will automatically find and include another two players (usually matched to your level).

Story missions are enjoyable - If you need a hand getting through them give me a shout if I'm on (usually after 8pm each day) and I'll take you through them - they're a walk in the park for me being at Level 32 lol!

enjoy bud.
